What is Karndean made of?

Karndean is a vinyl flooring product made primarily from calcium carbonate (limestone), polyvinyl chloride and pigments. It is structured with five layers - two PVC backing layers, one high definition photographic layer, one clear PVC embossed wear layer and a top polyurethane (PU) protective coating.

Will a Karndean floor be slippery?

As with most smooth floor coverings, water and other liquids can make it slippery. Karndean floors are designed to be slip resistant, but it is always best to clean up any spillages straight away, and keep the floor dry.

What is the difference between each of the Karndean ranges?

Besides having different design inspirations, sizes and formats which make each range unique, each of the product ranges also have a different wear layer. The thicker the wear layer the more durable the floor, but also the more the product designers can do with the finish - adding unique embosses for more texture and bevelled edges.

What are design strips?

There are several main differences between Karndean strips:

Design strips are strips cut from another tile or wood plank. They come in 3mm, 5mm, 10mm, 30mm and 76mm. Added between tiles and wood planks, strips can give the impression of grouting for a natural effect, and a contemporary look and feel to your home.

How easy is it to clean and maintain Karndean Designflooring?

It has never been easier to clean and maintain your Karndean Designflooring. They have developed an enhanced PU protective surface treatment which has been incorporated into the floors and offers outstanding slip, scuff and soiling resistance, resulting in an easier and more environmentally friendly regime for the cleaning and maintenance of your floor. Karndean Designflooring is hardwearing and like any hard flooring, regular maintenance will enhance the beauty and durability of your new floor.

Is there anything I need to do before the floor is laid?

Prior to laying Karndean Designflooring, products must be acclimatised to room temperature. Remove material from packaging, spread out and allow to condition in the room where installation is to take place at a constant temperature of 18°C - 26°C for a period of 24 hours prior to installation. This temperature should be maintained during installation and for a 24 hour period after installation.

Where can Karndean be laid in my home?

Karndean flooring is perfect for any room of the house, from the bathroom to kitchen, bedroom to living room, hallway to conservatory.

Can Karndean be used on stairs?

Yes it can. The front edge of each step will need to be finished off with compatible stair nosings 

What is PVC flooring and when is it useful?

PVC is just a synonym for Vinyl flooring. it combines the beauty of natural products like wood and stone with maximum innovation, durability and practicality. PVC flooring is available in many styles and colours, and in flexible and rigid variants. In short, there’s a PVC floor for every taste and project.

Are laminate floors waterproof?

Laminate is made from recycled hardwood, so it is not waterproof. The wear layer does resist scratches and may have minor protection against small spills.​
